Laser Comb
Laser Comb - an innovative hair treatment
Laser treatments are popping up everywhere these days. One of the most innovative is a treatment for thinning hair called the Laser Comb.
The manufacturer of a Laser Comb, Hair Max, says the device is a compact version of the kind of laser therapy machines used in laser clinics. It has been on the market since March 2001.
The principle behind the device, which Hair Max calls "photobiotherapy," is that by stimulating the blood supply to the hair follicles, thinning hair will be enhanced. The treatment does not claim to stop the progression of hair loss. In other words, it won't keep hair from falling out; it will just make what hair you have look thicker so that it covers the bald spot.
According to the manufacturer, this product has two rows of teeth that emit low-level laser light. The company promises that users should begin to see improvement in the quality, thickness and strength of hair within five to 10 weeks. However, as with all hair treatments, the manufacturer also cautions that results could take longer for some people.
The Laser Comb works like this: Instead of moving the device through the hair as with a regular comb, the Laser Comb is placed on one area of the head. It's then moved by half-inches – in what the manufacturer calls a "glide" – over the scalp each time a beep sounds. The directions call for the comb to be used first from the hairline to the back of the head and then in reverse.
It's recommended that this Comb be used for 10 to 15 minutes three times a week for an extended period. More treatments per week don't restore hair faster.
Laser Comb's manufacturer claims a 93 percent rate of user satisfaction. The maker offers to accept product returns up to 20 weeks after purchase if the user is dissatisfied with results, and claims that only 7 percent of products sold are returned. The manufacturer also sponsors a user forum on its website where users can post their own before-and-after photos attesting to their results with this Comb.
In most cases this product will produce results after 8 weeks' treatment for about 45 percent of users. An addition 45 percent of users see positive benefits in 10 to 16 weeks. The last 10 percent of users, who apparently are most resistant to the benefits of lasers, begin to see improve after 16 weeks.
