Cosmetic Laser
Pros and cons of Cosmetic Laser
Laser is an acronym, which stands for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. It is a single wavelength of light that is accurately focused on a very small area. Since its discovery in 1958, laser has greatly contributed to the success of many fields including the field of medicine particularly in the aspect of cosmetics. Because of its unique characteristics it has become a powerful tool in many procedures and treatments such as treatment for fine lines and wrinkles, skin tightening, skin laser resurfacing treatment for pigmented lesions, removal of precancerous lesions, treatment for vascular lesions, laser skin peeling, removal of permanent tattoos, hair removal, hair transplants and treatment for acne and acne scars.
In the field of cosmetics, cosmetic laser surgery has become a preferred choice over the classic cut and stitch surgical method because it lessens bleeding, operates in difficult and hard to reach areas of the body and enables the surgeon to select specific tissues to work on. Treatments and procedures are generally safe and effective. However, some cosmetic laser treatments have certain risks involved especially when done incorrectly. Effects ranges from temporary pain, reddening of the skin, bruising, swelling, formation of blisters, burns, infection and darkening of the skin. If done incorrectly or with inadequate tools the results may be permanent scarring and even cause eye damage.
You can minimize the risk of cosmetic laser through extensive research. Be aware of the requirements for the procedure to know if you are a suitable candidate, know the possible risks, time of recovery and the kind of follow up care needed. Remember not all laser treatments are good for you. For example, hair reduction through cosmetic laser is more effective for people with light skin and dark hair. It only gives minor results on blond, red, grey or white hair or for people with dark skin.
Cosmetic laser is expensive. Most of the time, it entails several procedures before the desired results can be achieved. Each session will cost you several hundreds of dollars depending on what treatment or procedure you are getting. It is also helpful to seek for doctors who are licensed to do the job such as surgeons. Do not be lured by cheap offers of non-experts because it will cause greater complications on your part. You will not only be risking your physical appearance but your life as well.
